Move & Play (Ages 2–5)

Move & Play is an inclusive sensory play and movement class for children aged 2–5 years.

Designed around the principles of sensory circuits, our sessions provide a calm, welcoming space where children can explore, move and play at their own pace. Through child-led activities, little ones can build confidence, coordination and social skills in an environment with no pressure, no judgement and lots of fun.

Each new starter receives their own All Abilities Active T-Shirt - helping them feel proud, confident, and ready to play (although they’re always welcome to wear whatever feels comfortable).

What to Expect

Every Move & Play session follows the same familiar routine, helping children feel comfortable, confident and know what to expect each week.

Each session begins with a short 5-minute welcome activity, giving everyone a chance to settle in before the room opens up into one continuous sensory circuit. Think balance beams, stepping stones, tunnels, climbing, jumping, ball play and lots of opportunities to move, explore and have fun.

Children are encouraged to work their way around the circuit in order, but there's no pressure to do so. They are free to revisit favourite activities, take breaks when needed, or explore at their own pace. Our sessions are designed to be child-led, allowing every child to engage in a way that feels comfortable for them.

We finish every session with a short calming activity, helping children regulate, wind down and end the session feeling settled.

Above all, there is no right or wrong way to join in. We believe children learn best when they feel safe, relaxed and in control.

What are Sensory Circuits

Sensory circuits are a series of simple movement activities designed to help children regulate their sensory systems and prepare their bodies for learning, play and everyday activities.

The activities are usually grouped into three stages:

Alerting - Activities that wake the body up and increase focus.

Organising - Activities that encourage coordination, motor planning and body awareness.

Calming - Activities that help children regulate and feel settled before finishing.

Many schools use sensory circuits as part of the school day because they can help children regulate their emotions, improve attention and develop motor skills

Stay & Play

Parents and carers stay throughout the session, creating a calm and supportive environment where children feel safe to explore.

After a short group welcome, families are free to move around the sensory circuit at their own pace, encouraging play, exploration and independence in whatever way feels right for their child. There’s plenty of opportunity to chat, connect with other families, and simply enjoy being together.

Schedule

All Abilities Move & Play operate classes during school term time only. Classes run roughly in line with Hertfordshire school terms.
